HAIR MATTERS : PART ONE

Hi peeps,
Happy weekend, how is the weekend going. As an hair stylist, I always have people ask me questions on how to take care of their hair, their hair texture, what kind of shampoo is best used after chemical straightening (retouching) and so many other questions.. Here are your answers finally, so lets take it one after the other. Lets start with hair texture...
The hair is composed of a sulphur rich, protein chemical substance called keratin that provides the hair strength and elasticity to withstand combing, brushing, heat and action of chemicals. the hair part is made up of three separate layers: the cuticle, the medulla and the cortex,

The cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair shaft, its main job is to protect the hair  inner layers from moisture loss. Very curly or kinky hair has few cuticle layers than straight hair that is why it is vunerable to chemical and heat damage.

The cortex isembedded inside the cuticle and it contains the melanin and other pigments responsible for colour.
The medulla is the hair's innermost layer of the hair.

I will be talking about the various hair structure and growth phase in the part two of this post, but before then you can comment below on your own knowledge about hair.

xoxo
